In my teenage years, I remember saving my allowance so I could go to the corner drugstore and shop for beauty products! Makeup, hair products, skincare you name it. I would spend hours reading labels and looking for the perfect product to spend my money on. All these products promised a lot on their labels, haha, and poor little me believed it. I would buy the product to later go home and try them and realize that no, this isn’t meant for your type of hair! No, this pretty to look at makeup won’t look so great on your skin tone! Testers were not really a thing back then lol…
Granted things have changed a lot since then, some brands have started carrying more than two shades of DEEP. I can go to the convenience store and find something for my hair type. Shopping for beauty products has definitely gotten better, but I’m excited about what is happening! Not just for the growing product diversification taking place but also for the diversification of suppliers. Black owners and creators who understand our unique beauty needs and how to cater to them!
I’m so excited to see that Walmart is committed to creating a platform to celebrate every beauty and giving space to black-owned beauty brands so that everyone can have a positive shopping experience when it comes to their beauty needs! Walmart is launching a new Black-Owned Beauty Brands site experience featuring amazing brands. I’ve fallen in love with The Lip Bar created by Melissa Butler! I got a few lip products to try and I’m so impressed with the quality and how well every shade compliments my skin tone! Shop my favorites below!
